In 1988 Brian Wood, a Massachusetts native with a marine biology background began hunting alligators in the Florida Everglades. Florida had just re-opened its season to hunt the swamp lizards, removing them from the endangered species list and upgrading their status to 'protected'. This outdoorsman realized the business potential, as he noticed at the time, there was no place for alligator hunters to have their quarry properly processed. Brian wanted to offer this service, as surely there would soon be a demand as news spread that alligators were now fair game.
Business has been good in the fourteen years that followed. What began as a simple operation during the month-long alligator season has developed into South Florida's largest alligator processing plant, with a year-round staff of skilled skinners and butchers to ensure the best possible yields. And those yields resulted in other opportunities. Alligator leather is among the most sought-after in the world. The skins of these reptiles produces a leather that is fine in texture, yet stronger than cowhide. Surely the opportunity to sell hand-crafted items to the public was not far off.
In 2000, All American Gator Products launched this web site with the purpose of reaching an even greater customer base for all of their products. The web site had been a small success until the 2000 holiday shopping season, when its full potential was realized. It became clear that the market for alligator leather products outside of South Florida was much larger than expected. Currently AllAmericanGator.com logs hundreds of 'hits' per week and receives countless product inquiries daily -- not to mention the orders we receive through our secure server.
As a company, we think we have achieved an ideal business model. Our processing facilities have eliminated a lot of the costs associated with mere end-producers. Additionally, our systems allow complete control of every phase of the operation, ensuring a higher level of quality to our customers.
